In the first part of this post I would like to share one story which you guys might have heard.
There was a small kid who purchased one teddy bear. He was very happy playing with his toy. The teddy bear also was very happy that he has someone who plays with him and takes very good care of himself.
This continued for a long time but as boy grew up he felt boring playing with that teddy bear. He went to market and purchased automatic robot with very attractive features. Now whole day boy plays with robot.
If we relate this story with software testing, then that teddy bear is just like manual testing which is slow and error-prone. The powerful robot is the automation technology which is very fast, can be run 24*7, and less error-prone.
Now, what are features of that robot(Automation) over teddy bear(Manual). The list is here :
We are humans and none of us like to do same thing all the time. That too if it comes to test something which is created by someone else then we felt boring. We start ignoring stuff which result into less efficiency.
Automation is testing something by executing some program and program never changes(unless we do), it test the same thing all the time without complaining(like manual people do).
There is nothing new to learn when you are testing same thing. But when you automate, you get a chance to deal with new technologies, face new challenges which keeps you alive.
In terms of business, automation gives better ROI(return of investments).
